SPRING
As spring arrives, Inuyama is gently brushed in soft colour.
Cherry blossoms along the Kiso River frame the historic castle town, marking the start of a vibrant new season.
During the Inuyama Festival, magnificent floats parade through the streets in a celebration of history and craftsmanship.
Walk beneath the blossoms in the mild spring air and you’ll find more than festival excitement — you’ll feel the warmth of a town that welcomes you in.
Inuyama Festival
Held on Saturday, 5 April and Sunday, 6 April 2025.
The Inuyama Festival, designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan, is a centuries-old ritual of Haritsuna Shrine said to date back to 1635.
Thirteen magnificent three-tiered floats, along with three processional floats, parade through the castle town as flutes and drums accompany mechanical puppet performances offered in ceremonial dedication. After sunset, lantern-lit floats glide beneath cherry blossoms in full bloom, creating a scene of striking and timeless beauty.

The scenic Kiso River reflects the beauty of every season.
A river cruise offers sweeping views of Inuyama Castle and striking rock formations, revealing Inuyama’s natural and historic charm from the water
Konan Wisteria Festival
It takes place at Mandaraji Park from mid-April to early May.
SUMMER
At dusk, as the evening breeze stirs the waters of the Kiso River, the town feels suspended between past and present.
On summer nights, traditional cormorant fishing lights up the river — a timeless spectacle that draws you into Inuyama’s living heritage.
Kiso River Cormorant Fishing
Cormorant fishing on the Kiso River — a tradition spanning more than 1,300 years — takes place each year from 1 June to 15 October.
In this time-honoured practice, skilled masters guide trained cormorants to catch river fish, creating a mesmerising scene set against the illuminated silhouette of Inuyama Castle.
RIVER PORT PARK Minokamo
Opened in 2018, this park is a vibrant hub for “urban outdoor living,” set between the flowing Kiso River and lush surrounding woodland.

Japan Line Summer Festival Long Run Fireworks
From boats drifting along the majestic Kiso River, enjoy spectacular fireworks lighting up the night sky for ten consecutive evenings, from 1 to 10 August.

National Treasure, Inuyama Castle
Inuyama Castle, one of Japan’s five national treasures castles, is believed to have been built in 1537 during Muromachi period by Oda Nobuyasu, the uncle of Oda Nobunaga.

Next to the hotel is Urakuen Garden, a serene Japanese garden that is home to the National Treasure tea room, Joan.
Tousenkyo Experience
Tōsenkyō is a traditional game in which players toss folding fans to knock down targets known as “butterflies.”

Exploring Inuyama Castle Town
The castle town of Inuyama grew alongside the construction of Inuyama Castle.
Echoes of its past remain in street names such as Kajiya-chō (Blacksmiths’ Town) and Uoya-chō (Fishmongers’ Town). The original layout endures to this day, with the merchants’ quarter at its heart and the samurai district encircling it.
